Part Time Target Shooting Class Instructor/Class Leader – Self employed basis, Kent area.

Staffing rate from £11.50, dependent on experience.

3-14 hours per week

Target Shooting School Kent (TSS) is an established grassroots organisation training the next generation of junior air rifle target shooters in classes across Kent. CLICK HERE for more info about our classes in Kent and visit our Facebook page @targetshootingschoolkent

We teach using a structured syllabus emphasising our core values of Responsibility, Trust, Collaboration and Mindfullness. Target Shooting allows us to develop important life skills. We have exciting opportunities for enthusiastic instructors, coaches, youth leaders and teachers to join our small dedicated team. This part-time self employed role is ideally suited for someone with a teaching/coaching background who enjoys working with kids. DBS checks will be necessary. Any prior shooting experience is advantageous, but not necessary. Full training will be provided.

Class Instructors provide the entry point to target shooting for new students, converting trial students in a Taster Class into signed up students for the term. Once a student is signed up for the term a Class Instructor will take them through the Entry Level modules of our teaching syllabus. Instruction might be 1 to 1 but is more often in groups ranging from 2 to 6 students. Each 2 hour long class comprises 3 staff led by at least one Class Leader.

Knowing kids is more important than knowing shooting!

Class Instructors will receive training and a modular syllabus to follow when introducing a new student into our sport; we do not expect you to already have this knowledge. We will develop and expand your skills and knowledge the more you instruct and coach within our framework. There are opportunities to receive formal National Smallbore Rifle Association coaching qualifications.

We offer our students a pathway from hobby shooting to club level competition, onto County Squads, Regional Training and towards GB selection. We offer you the knowledge to get them there.

Responsibilities include:

  • Arriving half an hour before the class starts to set up the shooting range equipment and staying on for around the same time to pack away at the end.

  • Ensuring range and rifle handling safety is being practiced by students under your supervision (training in this will be given in advance).

  • Working as part of a Range Staff Team

  • To abide by child safeguarding policies

We are looking for:

  • Self employed people who enjoy, and have experience of, working with kids aged 7 to 18

  • Good communication skills and a friendly, approachable attitude

  • Willing to learn

It is desirable to have:

  • A recent enhanced DBS check

  • Sports Coaching background/qualifications (from any discipline/sport)

  • An interest in shooting

  • Any experience running a shooting range

  • Any shooting-specific qualifications are an advantage, regardless of which governing body issued them.
